The short answer. California Daily 3 draws three digits and Daily 4 draws four, each from 0 to 9, every evening at 6:30 PM Pacific (9:30 PM Eastern). In the Gulf and India the result arrives the next morning. Repeats are normal. A straight play is 1 in 1,000 for Daily 3 and 1 in 10,000 for Daily 4.

What are California Daily 3 and Daily 4?

They are California’s digit games. “Daily” describes the schedule, not the format: the game draws every day, and what it draws is a short string of digits, three for Daily 3 and four for Daily 4. Each position is drawn on its own from all ten digits, so a digit that has already come out can come out again in the next position.

6:30 PM in California is already 9:30 PM in New York, and by then it is the early hours of the next day across the Gulf and South Asia, which is why the result is a morning one for readers there. The date on the result is always the California date. A Monday-evening ticket is found under Monday in our archive, even though you are reading it on Tuesday. The same draw time also produces California Fantasy 5, covered in our California Fantasy 5 guide, so the state’s nightly results tend to arrive together.

How do the odds compare with other states’ digit games?

California Daily 3 top-prize odds: there are 1,000 possible 3-digit results, from 000 to 999, so an exact-order (straight) play is 1 in 1,000. This is arithmetic on the game’s format, not a claim about any draw.

California Daily 4 top-prize odds: there are 10,000 possible 4-digit results, from 0000 to 9999, so an exact-order (straight) play is 1 in 10,000. This is arithmetic on the game’s format, not a claim about any draw.

Every three-digit game has the same number of possible results, and so does every four-digit game, whichever state runs it. What differs is when each draw happens. For a reader following several of them from the Gulf, the useful view is the order in which the results arrive, and the table below lists every three- and four-digit draw we publish with its time converted for today.

Read down the UAE column and you have a timetable. The New York midday draws arrive in the evening. Then, in the early morning, California’s draws come first, Florida’s Pick games a quarter of an hour later, and the New York evening draws last. None of these results has any bearing on another. A 5-2-7 in New York does not make 5-2-7 more or less likely in California the same night; the draws share a format and nothing else. Our guides to New York Numbers and Win 4 and Florida’s Pick games cover the other two states.

How likely is my favourite digit to appear?

A common question, usually from someone who always plays one particular digit. The honest answer is a short calculation. For your digit to be missing from a Daily 3 result, each of the three positions has to land on one of the other nine digits, which happens nine times in ten, three times over. Take that away from one and your digit appears at least once in about 27% of Daily 3 results. With a fourth position, the figure rises to about 34% for Daily 4.

The same figure applies to every digit, which is the point. No digit is favoured, and none becomes more likely after a run of absences. Seeing your digit in a result is common; matching the whole number is the rare event, and the odds above are the ones that decide that.

Straight or box

Whether a result wins for you depends on how the ticket was played. A straight needs the exact order; a box accepts any order of your digits and covers between three and twenty-four orders depending on repeats. The counting is in our straight vs box guide.

Leading zeros are real

A Daily 4 result of 0-3-0-9 is four digits, not the number 309. If a result reaches you through a message or a spreadsheet that has dropped the zeros, put them back before comparing it with your ticket.

Three digits or four?

Both results arrive at the same moment, so it is easy to glance at the wrong one. Count the digits on your ticket first, then open the matching page.

What if tonight’s result is not showing yet?

The draw happens at 6:30 PM Pacific, but a result only appears here once it has been officially published, and that is not instant. If you open the page just after the draw time and still see the previous day’s numbers, the new result has simply not been released yet. Nothing is guessed or filled in while we wait, so the page never shows a provisional number that later changes. Each game page carries a live Pacific clock, which makes it easy to see whether the draw time has passed. If you would rather not keep checking, the bell on either page sends one alert when that game’s new result is recorded, and nothing for the other.

How do I check a Daily 3 or Daily 4 ticket?

  1. Read the game, the draw date and, for Daily 3, whether it is the midday or evening draw.
  2. For an evening ticket, open California Daily 3 or California Daily 4 and find the California date.
  3. Write the result out in full, keeping any leading zero.
  4. Compare it the way the ticket was played: position by position for a straight, sorted digits for a box.
  5. Confirm any possible win with the California Lottery or an authorised retailer before relying on it.
An independent results site. We record Daily 3 and Daily 4 after each draw is published. We do not sell tickets and are not the California Lottery. Prices and prizes for each play type are set by the operator and can change, so check the official lottery for current figures. Whether you can take part depends on where you are; ask the official operator.

Frequently asked questions

Both draw every evening at 6:30 PM Pacific time, which is 9:30 PM Eastern. In the UAE and India the result arrives early the next morning, dated the previous day in California.
Daily 3 has 1,000 possible results, so a straight play is 1 in 1,000. Daily 4 has 10,000, so a straight play is 1 in 10,000. Box plays have shorter odds that depend on your digits.
Yes. Each of the three positions is drawn from all ten digits, so results such as 4-4-0 or 9-9-9 are genuine. A repeated digit is not a mistake in the draw or in our archive.
It is the same format, three digits from 0 to 9, with the same odds. But each state runs its own draw, so a California ticket is only ever checked against the California result.
No. We record the evening Daily 3 draw at 6:30 PM Pacific. California also holds a midday Daily 3 draw, and a ticket for that draw has to be checked against the official midday result.
